Sanibel police warn residents of recent burglaries

SANIBEL, Fla.- The Sanibel Police Department is issuing a community alert after a string of recent burglaries.

During the late night hours of Tuesday and the early morning hours on Wednesday, eight vehicle burglaries were reported at local condominiums and resorts between 541 East Gulf Drive and 2445 West Gulf Drive.

One vehicle was reported stolen on the 800 block of East Gulf Drive.

Authorities say all burglarized vehicles were left unlocked. The stolen vehicle was left unlocked with the keys in the vehicle.

Police advise residents and visitors to keep the windows rolled up and vehicles locked at all times, even if it’s parked at your own residence.

They also recommend you remove anything of value from plain sight in the passenger compartment and put them in the trunk to keep them hidden. This includes backpacks, briefcases, cell phones, laptop computers or any other technological devices.
