Man steals car, breaks into home

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A warning for every person that goes to the gym.

A woman says she had her car stolen after she hung her keys on a rack while she worked out. But, the crime didn’t stop there. Cape Coral police say Christopher Connor not only stole her car, but, also broke into her home.

Investigators say Connor went to Mid-Cape Fitness located on Pine Island Road, took car keys that didn’t belong to him and drove off in a woman’s black Lexus. One gym member says he understands how the theft could have happened.

“I think it’s crazy. I think the keys are way too accessible at the gym cause they are just hung up on the wall for anyone to take,” said Nikoli Radmore.

Police say Connor then drove the car to the woman’s Cape Coral home.

He used the house key to open the door, while the victim and her daughter were inside. Connor took off and was eventually arrested at the Wawa gas station on Pine Island and Del Prado Boulevard.

WINK News talked to Connor’s stepfather off camera. He says he and his stepson went to the gym together and then his stepson disappeared. He says it’s not in his stepson’s character to do something like that.

Connor first told police he took a Xanax and didn’t remember committing the crime. Then police say he admitted to doing it for no particular reason.
