LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Outspoken Donald Trump says some controversial things, but WINK News uncovered an outrageous claim being made about him. A Republican congressman from South Florida has a theory that Trump may have been planted by democrats to help get Hillary Clinton elected.

In a recent radio interview U.S. Rep. Carlos Curbelo, R-Fla. Said “I think there’s a small possibility that this gentleman is a phantom candidate.”

While we can’t fact-check one man’s opinion, our team of researchers at PolitiFact did analyze something that stuck out.

Rep. Curbelo also said, “Mr. Trump has a close friendship with Bill and Hillary Clinton. They were at his last wedding. He has contributed to the Clintons’ foundation. He has contributed to Mrs. Clinton’s Senate campaigns. All of this is very suspicious.”

Joshua Gillin with PolitiFact says it’s TRUE that Bill and Hillary Clinton were at Trump’s last wedding.

“President Bill was not at the ceremony. He did show up at the reception and Hillary herself was actually in the front pew for that wedding and then they both went to the reception after at the Mer-A-Lago Club in Palm Beach,” Gillin said.

The wedding guest controversy comes as Trump threatens an independent run. He told The Hill newspaper last week that he would consider a third-party run if the Republican National Committee doesn’t play fair, but even Trump noted it could be disastrous for the party.

“The best way to beat the democrats and Hillary, I think it’s probably going to be Hillary, is to run as a Republican. If I do the third party thing I think it would be very bad for the Republicans. I think it would be very bad in terms of beating the Democrats,” Trump said.

PolitiFact points out trump has given to several campaigns of both democrats and republicans over the years… and emphasizes the wedding was 10 years ago.

“One of the things to keep in mind is that it appears the relationship between Trump and the Clintons isn’t maybe what it used to be. Trump has been saying in other interviews that well the Clintons were only interested in getting his money,” Gillin said.
