Flag run takes place through Lee County

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Nearly 50 people drove to Famous Daves in Fort Myers from Lehigh Acres on Sunday flying Confederate flags. They tell WINK News they had one message–the flag is about heritage, not hate.

“Hertigate not hate, man. Let’s keep the flag alive,” one man in the procession said.

“It’s all about southern pride anyways; it’s all about your heritage,” another flag supporter said.
Dozens were in the procession but they say it’s something they’ve done before and they were not doing it just because of the recent controversy that arose after nine people were killed in a historic black church in Charleston.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re black, white, brown, purple. If you’re an American, you’re an American.”
