CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – Around 2,200 people in Charlotte County were without power Sunday morning after a car crashed into a home and hit a power pole.

According to Charlotte County Fire and EMS, the driver of a BMW was headed eastbound on Willmington Boulevard, when she lost control and hit a home in the 6000 block of Coliseum Boulevard.

The crash happened around 3 a.m. Sunday. There were three people in the car, one woman and two men. All three were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition.

The driver, 24-year-old Victoria Gentile, from North Venice faces charges for careless driving.

A spokesperson for Charlotte County Fire and EMS tells WINK News the home hit was still under construction and no one was living there yet.

Gentile also hit a power pole, knocking power out to thousands of homes. Florida Power and Light responded to the scene and was able to restore power quickly.

Florida Highway Patrol said alcohol did not play a factor in the crash. State troopers are still investigating.
