COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- A smokey smell across Southwest Florida Thursday has many residents in the area wondering what the cause is.

Florida Forest Service tells WINK News part of the smell is from a swamp fire in the Everglades.

The Everglades Fire District says the fire has been burning a couple of days and is smoldering. Fire crews are planning to flood the area next week but until then, residents can expect the smell to stay in the area.

Residents in Lee County may also smell the smoke lingering from Wednesday’s fire at Estero Bay Preserve.
