Fire destroys guest home in Golden Gate Estates

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – Firefighters are unable to figure out what started a fire behind a home off of 9th street Northwest in Golden Gate Estates.

The fire destroyed a guest house and spread to several other buildings Wednesday morning. Thankfully nobody was hurt.

“I thought there were was a huge explosion, like an atomic bomb, that’s what it sounded like,” said Tammy Joy, who has lived at the home for 13 years.

She tells WINK News it happened around 4 a.m. Three people were staying at the guest house at the time.

Jaezen Brock was one of them, “it looks like ash, all of it’s ash. Nothing is there, everything caught on fire. We tried stopping it but we couldn’t, we only had a couple water hoses.”

Greater Naples firefighters tell WINK News the fire could have burned for four hours because no one called 911 until 8:30 a.m.

“I actually just put it out, I know how to put out fires. I just pray and they go away,” said Tammy Joy.

The State Fire Marshal was called out to investigate. However, because everything was so badly burned, they could not determine what started it.

“I believe that it was all the old paints, the aerosols, and all that blew up,” said Tammy Joy.
