Deal of the Day: Getting money for your groceries

Published: Updated:

FORT MYERS, Fla. – If you do the grocery shopping every week, this Deal of the Day is for you.

An app called “Ibotta” can get you money back, just by purchasing items at the grocery store.

Here’s how it works:

Each week the app creates a sort of shopping list for your supermarket of choice. You can choose what items you want to purchase, upload a picture of your receipt and the bar code and watch a brief advertisement. Doing this can earn you anywhere between 20 cents and $2.

Local financial blogger, Kalyn Brooke of Creativesavingsblog.com says you do not always need to buy brand specific to get the rebate.

“The really cool thing about Ibotta, is some are brand names, but others are completely generic. So whatever brand milk you buy or eggs, or cheese or ketchup or anything like that, you can buy any brand you want and just use the bar code for that brand and it works,” she explained.

Kalyn says she has earned $25 over the last three months just by using the app.
