New Cardiac Observation Unit is unveiled at HealthPark Medical Center

LEE COUNTY, Fla.,- WINK News got a sneak peek at the new cardiac unit at HealthPark Medical Center. The new space is double the size of the old. WINK News takes a look at the new technology.

“This has been a long process, several years and we are finally there,” said Beth Moss, System Director for Invasive Cardiovascular Services with Lee Memorial Health System.

It’s been a long time in the making. A new Cardiac Observation Unit at HealthPark hospital was unveiled to WINK News.

“It’s much more open, it’s great for the patients and the family, the flow is amazing from the time you start in our department from the time you end,” said Moss.

The new unit is much bigger, the number of beds has gone from 15 to 26 and the cardiac unit will now be able to see about 10 more patients daily.

“What’s different upstairs is there is three parts to the area where we are standing right now, pre-admission testing, cardiac observation and cath holding area were geographically separated and now they are all one big area,” Moss told WINK News.

And then, there is this state-of-the-art equipment that will provide advanced, life-saving medical services, such as bringing images of the heart to the room they weren’t able to do before.

“We can take the pictures, diagnose if there is a blockage in the artery and fix that with a stent or a balloon.”

The new technology also allows for fewer patients to have to stay in the hospital overnight. Results will also be given in a more intimate setting.

“The physician will talk to the family, the patient and the nurse who will be taking care of that patient all at the same time,” said Moss.

The unit will open on Monday and see it’s first patient at noon.
