TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State Attorney’s Office released surveillance video Monday of Florida State freshman quarterback De’Andre Johnson punching a woman in the face.

The 19-year-old Johnson was charged last week with misdemeanor battery in connection with the June 24 incident at a Tallahassee nightclub. He turned himself in to police on June 30 after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was released from custody later the same day on $500 bond, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

The altercation occurred after the woman – who was waiting in line for a drink at Yianni’s nightclub – felt Johnson push past her aggressively, court records obtained by the paper allege.

Video of the incident appears to show the woman raise her right hand. Johnson then grabs her right arm, she responds by reaching out and apparently hitting him with her left hand, beore Johnson then punches her on the left side of her face.

According to court records, the woman suffered a black eye, swelling to her face and a minor cut to her nose. Johnson left the bar after the incident, reports the paper.

Johnson last week retained criminal defense attorney Jose Baez, who is known for winning an acquittal for Casey Anthony – the Florida mother accused of killing her toddler daughter. Baez said in a news release he “would investigate the accusations against Johnson thoroughly,” reports the paper.

In the wake of his arrest, Johnson was suspended indefinitely by Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher. In a statement, the school attributed the suspension to a violation of athletic department policy.

Johnson is from Jacksonville and was the state’s Mr. Football in 2014. He enrolled early at Florida State in January. He completed 8 of 11 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns in the spring game in April.
