Thousands enjoy 4th of July on Fort Myers Beach

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. – “Great bombs,” Alex Lucchesi, a pyrotechnic for Garden State Fireworks said.

“Just a lot of flashing and colors and loud booms,” Casey Whitaker, another pyrotechnic told WINK News.

To a pyrotechnic, maybe that’s all it is. But there’s no doubt why thousands come to enjoy the fireworks show on Fort Myers Beach every year.

“I like the lights. I’m a big fireworks fan so I really like the colors and stuff, it’s really vibrant,” said Alexandria Kuylynych.

“Yeah I really like the people around, you know everybody having a good time. It’s fun,” said Manny Cardenas.

“Everybody’s at the beach. This is a great place to be, Fort Myers Beach is the place to be,” Lucchesi said.

The day started off with a live band, pitching up camp on the beach, and just enjoying the nice weather. Although paramedics say that just by 4 p.m., they already had their hands full.

“We’ve had multiple calls of people having heat-related illnesses and passing out,” said Cody Chilson with the Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District.

However it wouldn’t be Florida without the daily afternoon storm rolling in and cooling everyone off. Even the pyrotechnics came prepared to guard the fireworks with a tarp.

“Yeah we put a lot of work and sweat into this so we always just hope that it turns out to be alright,” said Jeremiah Grover, a pyrotechnic.

From sand on the beach, plenty of American flags, and a little bit of traffic to live music and good company, it was the perfect recipe for a successful Fourth of July.
