FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) – The Florida Highway Patrol says a man died after walking into traffic on Interstate 75 near Fort Myers.

Troopers closed interstate’s southbound lanes for much of the night after the man apparently jumped into the path of a tractor-trailer about 10 p.m. Wednesday. He was then struck by another vehicle as he lay in the road.

The interstate was reopened Thursday morning.

According to troopers, the man was walking along the paved shoulder of the outside lane when he jumped in front of the truck driven by 51-year-old Mario Alberto Oliva of Miami. A second vehicle driven by 37-year-old Julius Damone Terrell of North Fort Myers hit the man.

The name of the victim hasn’t been released.
