DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say a 78-year-old security guard at a Daytona Beach apartment complex is in a coma after being beaten by a resident.

Police arrested 42-year-old Jason Maduro who admitted beating Salvatore Genova on Friday night. Maduro told police Genova had accused him of smoking marijuana.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://bit.ly/1IpC3JV ) reports Maduro came to police headquarters on Saturday morning after a relative told him to report the incident.

In an arrest report, he states he got into an argument with Genova who poked him in the face. Maduro says he then struck Genova in the head and ran when he saw the man bleeding.

Authorities say Genova’s injuries are serious.

Maduro faces a charge of aggravated battery on a person over 65. He’s in jail with a $75,000 bond.
