The new Dunk City?

LEE COUNTY, Fla.- “It’s the same ‘Dunk City,’ just different players,” said FGCU freshman guard Rayjon Tucker.

“We’re going to build this program back up like the way we had it.”

The FGCU basketball team will have a different look this season. Only one player remains from the Eagles’ original “Dunk City” team that reached the Sweet 16.

Two of their best players for the past few years, Brett Comer and Bernard Thompson, have graduated.

But the “new” Dunk City has plenty of potential.

Tucker is the highest-rated recruit that FGCU has ever signed, and he leads a very talented freshman class, along with some impact transfers.

FGCU hasn’t been quite as explosive as in years past, but don’t call it a comeback. Tucker declared that Dunk City never left, but he will continue to make sure it doesn’t go anywhere.

“It was never gone. It was just hidden under the rug for a little bit,” said Tucker.

“I’m here to bring it back. My boy Reggie [Reid] is here to bring it back. I feel like everybody is pumped for this new season.”

FGCU started mandatory summer workouts this week.
