Mystery baseball returned to owner

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A mystery solved!

Tuesday, WINK News told you about a local man who found a baseball at a car wash, with the words “1st grand slam.”

Since our story aired, the owner of the ball was found. WINK News talked to the 13-year-old boy who didn’t even know the ball was missing.

The baseball has been on quite the journey over the last three days. It’s been seen by our WINK News viewers and it’s famous on social media.

“I was definitely shocked, I looked twice and was like ‘that’s my handwriting,'” said Kristina Rendon.

“I was shocked. I didn’t know if this was real or not,” said Vinny Husband, the young owner of the baseball.

His mom saw a picture on Facebook and says they didn’t even know the ball was missing!

“I ran into the living room and said ‘Vinny, somebody found your baseball, we have to get in touch with them, it’s on the news,'” said Rendon.

Rendon says she values the act of kindness by a total stranger to get her son back his special treasure.

“I am thankful for him that he would do that for me and I’m happy and glad,” said Husband.

On Sunday, Cape Coral resident James Hammond found the ball at Happy Days Car Wash. He knew the ball was a special one because the words “1st grand slam County Tournaments,” with the date April 18, 2015, were written in black ink on the ball.

“It was a big accomplishment and I might never have one again,” said Husband.

In an interesting series of events, Husband had the ball in his backpack but it fell out in his grandma’s car. His grandma then went for a car wash and somehow it fell out and landed on a drain.

“I am so thankful to him to actually have gone through all of this to give Vinny his ball back,” Rendon told WINK News.
