LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Parents are speaking out against books being considered for use in the classroom. Now parents want their voices heard at Tuesday’s school board meeting. The Lee County School District has already received 16 formal objections about the list of textbooks it hopes to use. Parents are complaining about a world history book for sixth graders. They say the history book does not mention Adolf Hitler or Joseph Stalin and some of the complaints suggest the book has a pro-Islam agenda that overshadows other religions. A health and physical education book for high school students is also coming under fire. Some parents says it goes too far and believes the topic should be left to families to discuss. While another complaint says the book doesn’t go far enough to teach prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy. There will be a public hearing Tuesday at 6 p.m., at the Lee County School District where anyone can attend and voice their concerns. Trust WINK News to bring you updates from the meeting.
