FORT MYERS, Fla.- As the baby boomer generation ages, Southwest Florida needs more primary care physicians. Lee Memorial Hospital is home to a residency program, and it’s hoping to bring more doctors to our area for training. In fact, the first residents are graduating this week. Dr. Gary Goforth joins us live in the studio with more on the program. The residency program is the only one like it between Tampa, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Lee Memorial partnered with Florida State University to admit a maximum of 18 residents. Family medicine residency: Elderly, pregnant women, adults, adolescents & babies Treatment, prevention & health promotion Physical, spiritual & emotional care Five medical doctors, a psychologist & a nurse practitioner
