All 9 Home Depot stores in SWFL now have special parking for veterans

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.- You’ve heard of handicap parking or parking for expecting moms, but what about veterans?

It’s a new movement paving its way into Southwest Florida. WINK News was at the Home Depot in Bonita Springs, the first location to add the special parking spots. Now, all nine Home Depots in SWFL have the special parking.

“It’s little things like this that show that the American people love our soldiers.”

The parking spots are a salute to our service members wounded in combat.

“I think it’s well deserved, our soldiers fight the good fight for us,” said Cape Coral resident Timothy Ambrose.

Lined in purple, with a Purple Heart front and center, the reserved spots are front row at the Home Depot.

“As long as you’re a veteran, you can park there,” said store manager Bob Misewicz.

The new spots are to thank our military for the sacrifice they make when they choose to serve our country.

“It’s a great feeling because I am a veteran myself, an Army veteran, and I support the military 100 percent,” said Misewicz.

Now, this is more than just a front spot to park your car. Each person that parks here has a different story to tell about their time in the service.

“It makes me feel so good, I can offer this to them because of the sacrifice they gave to fight and defend our country,” said Misewicz.

The signs are part of a nationwide project through the organization Wounded Warriors Family Support.

“I mean it just feels great that we can do that for the customers and anyone that shops in our store,” Misewicz.

No one is patrolling the parking lots to make sure veterans are the only ones using the spots. They are using the honor system.
