Tiger has nightmare round, Johnson and Stenson tied for the lead at US Open

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. (AP) – The star of this U.S. Open was supposed to be Chambers Bay. Thursday turned into another horror show for Tiger Woods, and this time he had some company.

Henrik Stenson and Dustin Johnson set the tone for a relatively gentle debut of the 8-year-old course on the edge of Puget Sound. Both opened with 5-under 65 to share the lead.

And then came Woods, making bogey after bogey, ending a round of 80 by topping a 3-wood from the fairway. It was his third round in the 80s this year, and he wasn’t even the worst in his own group. Rickie Fowler shot an 81. For both, it was their highest score in a U.S. Open.

It was hard to blame that on Chambers Bay. Some two dozen players were headed for rounds under par.
