Gunfire causes crash on Summerlin Road

LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The Lee County Sheriff’s Office tells WINK News, someone fired gun shots at a car that then crashed into the wall on the Summerlin Road northbound ramp early Thursday morning.

The call came in around 4:30 a.m. LCSO tells WINK News a red car crashed into the side wall of the Summerlin Road northbound ramp, over Gladiolus Drive. It does not appear the driver was injured.

The driver told deputies he was leaving the Harlem Heights area when an orange Ford Explorer started following him and fired a shot. He says he was speeding to get away and that’s when he crashed into the overpass wall. The victim told deputies the SUV then pulled back in front of his crashed car and fired two more shots at him. He says he jumped over the wall and ran to the gas station nearby for help.

The owner of the gas station told WINK News, one of the clerks was inside the station when the altercation happened.

“Yeah, he heard the gun shots,” said George Vukmirovic. “He said it was two or three shots at once and then there was a pause and then two or three again.”

Surveillance footage shows the victim walking up to the gas station doors, which were locked since the station was not yet open.

From what the video footage showed, he kept walking around pacing around,” Vukmirovic said.

The ramp was shut down for more than three hours while deputies investigated. A tow truck arrived and took the car away around 7:45 a.m. and then the road opened back up.
