LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) – A 17-year-old Lakeland boy has been arrested after authorities say he beat a woman’s puppy to death.

WFLA-TV (http://bit.ly/1GtTN4h ) reports Polk County Sheriff’s Office investigators say the dog’s owner, Brandy Siniad, left her 10-month-old, Chihuahua-dachshund mix named Bruce in the care of a neighbor June 16.

The neighbor heard the dog barking outside and found two males running away from her backyard and the dog on the ground.

Bruce suffered from three broken ribs and a collapsed lung and died from trauma after having surgery.

Investigators say a 17-year-old boy confessed to harming the puppy.

Detectives say he did not give a reason for beating the dog.

The teenager was arrested and charged with third-degree felony animal cruelty.

It is unclear if he has a lawyer.
