CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla.- The Shih Tzu left on the side of Kings Highway near the DeSoto and Charlotte County line after dragged by a car is improving.

However, veterinarians at the Punta Gorda Animal Hospital say the dog still has a long way to recovery. Her chest was stitched up and she’s still on antibiotics.

So far no one has come forward with any additional information.

Jennifer Schebel spoke with WINK News after first witnessing the incident. She said she was driving down Kings Highway when a four-door, white truck cut her off. Schebel said she saw something dangling from the passenger side.

“I tried to get closer to see what it was and that’s when I started seeing blood on the road and I kind of flipped out and I rolled down my window and was yelling out my window. I was blaring the horn to try to get their attention.”

If no one claims the Shih Tzu, the dog will be put up for adoption when doctors think she’s ready for a new home.
