Woman convicted in ‘Cash Feenz’ murders fights for new sentence

LEE COUNTY, Fla.- A woman convicted in the “Cash Feenz” murders is fighting for a new sentence.

Ashley Toye cried on the stand Friday morning, talking about the night Alexis and Jeffery Sosa were killed and her role in their deaths.

Toye was only 17 years old at the time of the murder and claims her life sentence without parole is unfair. It’s the same argument another suspect made in court Friday.

Toye described herself as being a shy and lost child, just trying to fit in, and a grown woman who is sorry for what she has done.

“I was controlled, a lost little girl, I couldn’t find my way. I couldn’t even stick up for myself. I’m sorry I couldn’t stick up for anyone else.”

She’s fighting for a reduced sentence and says she hopes the judge sees her for who she is today. She also talked about a controlling and abusive relationship with boyfriend Kemar Johnston, the ringleader of the grusome murders.

Toye described the night of the killings and the moment a knife was placed in her hand.

“The knife was handed to me. I didn’t know what to do at the time, there was guns in my face, I was wanting to save face I guess you could say and I felt like, I’m going to do this too, to be cool, to fit in.”

She is already serving 25 years for the kidnapping charge and that won’t change. The judge will decide June 22 whether to reduce her life sentence for the murder charge.
