LEE COUNTY, Fla.- A local business is teaming up with a Southwest Florida non-profit to help children this summer. CenturyLink has partnered with the Harry Chapin Food Bank to collect canned goods and other nonperishable items this week. They want you to go through your pantry and see if there is anything you can donate. The food bank says around this time of year, donations are at their lowest. “Food is only nutritious if a child will eat it. You want things that taste good. Peanut butter, jelly, mac and cheese, canned fruit, apple sauce… Things that they really want and like to eat, and have good nutrition,” said Joyce Jacobs, associate director for Harry Chapin. The food bank says there are 80,000 children who won’t get free or reduced lunch this summer because they are out of school for summer vacation. Donations can be made to the Harry Chapin Food Bank’s warehouses in Fort Myers between 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
