LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Florida Gulf Coast University leaders are discussing the school’s future. Wednesday, the board of trustees began to prepare for the university’s growth.

The board discussed in and out traffic, as well as academic programs the school will offer.

WINK News first told you last week the university wants to add a south and north entrance. Provost Ron Toll says at the moment, it looks like the state will fund the south entrance. The north entrance will be paid for by a new developer.

“That’s been a request that I think has gotten sufficient traction and we are hopeful of that project,” said Toll.

The board also talked about getting rid of two master programs. Enrollment for Master of Reading has declined. The board decided to wait to discontinue the Master in Nursing program for one more year. It will be replaced be a doctoral program in fall of 2016.

“We’re replacing it by a more powerful degree or the other degree because the old degree is either less powerful or it won’t give people with that degree that opening job opportunity,” said Toll.

Toll also added all the decisions are made to help students be as successful in their careers as they can possibly be.
