LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Residents along a canal in Fort Myers Shores came to the rescue of an 88-year-old man clinging to a dock.

“I’m coming down the canal and I see a gentleman in the water, clinging to the side of his kayak,” said John White.

“The canoe was flipped upside down, and he was just clinging to the boat dock,” said James Boone. “He said he’d been there for two hours.”

“I was trying to get some debris out of the canal.” said 88-year-old John Price. “I felt I was responsible for it because it was on my property, and when the tree fell, it took down part of his dock so I thought the least I could do was get it out of the water.”

White says he doesn’t travel in the canal often, and it was pure luck that he found Price when he did.

“He’s 88 and God bless him, he still does his own roofing, still does his own everything. The man refuses to act his age,” said Boone.

Paramedics checked out Price’s condition afterwards and say he’s in perfect shape.
