Sanibel man says Blue Bell ice cream made him sick

SANIBEL, Fla. – A man became deathly ill shortly after eating his favorite ice cream– Blue Bell Cookies and Cream.

His wife, Carol McRae, tells WINK News that her husband Brent McRae  soon began vomiting every fifteen minutes and eventually began hallucinating.

She said she rushed her husband to HealthPark Medical Center where he was admitted into the ICU. McRae became septic and fell in to a coma.

It wasn’t until McRae had been out of the hospital and in a hospital rehab program for several weeks that the idea that he may have contracted listeria from eating Blue Bell ice cream became a question in his mind.

He says his wife called Blue Bell’s hotline and described the problem.

Carol McRae said she was promised a call back but that Blue Bell never followed through.

WINK News called multiple numbers for Blue Bell and have not been able to obtain a response.
