NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla.- A man is facing a number of charges after a wild crime spree involving a shooting, a carjacking and drugs.

Friday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to a shooting that occurred at on Lake Street. Upon arriving, deputies found a victim with a gunshot wound to the neck.

According to detectives, 50-year-old George Campbell was in the residence and demanded money.

During the course of the robbery, one of the victims was shot in the neck. Police say Campbell then left the residence and attempted to enter the gunshot victim’s vehicle. Campbell was unable to enter the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

While deputies and detectives were responding to the first scene, a second victim approached deputies and stated that he was just carjacked by a man on Cabana Avenue.

According to detectives, Campbell approached the victim, who was driving a red Ford F150 Lightning truck. Campbell tapped on the window and pointed a silver revolver at him and then stole the truck.

After the carjacking, Campbell drove the Ford F150 to the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Fort Myers to purchase narcotics.

Campbell was unable to locate any narcotics and inadvertently waved down an unmarked Lee County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle that was looking for him. The deputies in the unmarked vehicle activated the emergency lights. After realizing that the vehicle was occupied by deputies, the vehicle fled toward Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Deputies attempted to stop the F150 and Campbell fled at a high rate of speed, making a right turn from Cuba Street onto eastbound Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Authorities say Campbell weaved in and out of traffic and eventually crossed over into the westbound lanes, driving into oncoming traffic.

In the 4600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., the F150 jumped the concrete median and crashed through a railing and into a drainage ditch on the south side of the roadway.  No other vehicles received damage and there were no reported injuries.

Deputies were then able to take Campbell into custody.

He is charged with two counts of robbery with a firearm, carjacking with a firearm, and aggravated battery, among other charges.
