Cape Coral man in jail for attacking roommate with box cutter

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A man is in jail after attacking his roommate with a box cutter.

Thursday night around 7:30 p.m., Cape Coral Police responded to a disturbance at a home on the 1600 bloack of SE 40 Terrace.

Officers say 54-year-old John Herrick cut another male at the residence with a knife and then fled on foot.

Authorities say an intoxicated Herrick and his roommate got into an argument about a dirty towel in the bathroom at their residence.

The argument escalated to a physical fight, during which Herrick armed himself with a box cutter that fell out of his work belt while they were fighting. Herrick began slashing his roommate’s legs with box cutter when the tide of the fight turned against him. Herrick then fled the home on foot.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Herrick returned to the home when he saw the ambulance and was taken into custody.
