LEE COUNTY, Fla.- With boater fatalities on the rise across the state, the U.S. Coast Guard released a brand new app it hopes will save lives.

The app will allow you to create a float plan. You can enter your boat’s information, where you are starting your trip and where you intend to end it.

A document will then be created so that you can share it with family and friends.

There are also useful tools that can make your boating experience safer.

“It will show you all the required equipment, and also recommended equipment on your vessel. Along with safety checks and tests for you,” said Ashley Johnson.

The app can also use your phone’s GPS to put you in touch with the Coast Guard station nearest to you in case of an emergency.

To download the app, search for “United States Coast Guard” in your phone’s app store.
