PLANTATION, Fla. (WINK) – A woman going into labor was the first call for a new ambulance in South Florida.

Firefighters just finished getting the brand new truck ready for service when the call came in. Crews responded to a home in Plantation and found 45-year-old Evelyn Garcia about to give birth.

Lt. Jordan Shaver says,”We knew once we got there, we had to move quick.”

As they were rushing her to Broward Health Medical Center, the baby just wouldn’t wait. Garcia gave birth to a healthy baby boy right there in the new brand new rescue truck.

“They arrived, and in five minutes he was born. It was fast,” Garcia said. “He wanted to be born in the ambulance; he didn’t wait to get to the hospital.”

Rescuers say the delivery went great and every one is healthy.

Mom named her little boy Jeremy. This is her second child.
