MGN FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) – Authorities in Fort Lauderdale are investigating a fatal police shooting of a man who had barricaded himself in a home with a hostage. The shooting of 29-year-old Javoris Washington happened Thursday after officers answered a call about a violent domestic disturbance. Authorities say Washington was holding a female hostage with a sharp object when they arrived. A SWAT team and crisis negotiation team were dispatched to the home, but attempts to negotiate Washington’s surrender were not successful. Authorities say Washington was fatally shot by an officer after taking actions police believe put the hostage’s life in danger. The name of the officer who fired the shots has not been released.
