LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Law enforcement officials are combing the waters near Bonita Springs, searching for a missing boater.

Rescuers with the U.S. Coast Guard and Lee County Sheriff’s deputies are on the water near Big Hickory Pass.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials say they’re not sure who was on a boat found floating abandoned in the water Friday.

Identification numbers from the boat did not help. Officials say the registration took them back to a former owner of the boat.

Detectives are now focusing on the serial numbers of the boat’s motor.

Officers pulled the vessel, along with its blue cooler, to shore and then loaded it onto a trailer for evidence.

FWC officials say this is still a very active search and they will keep looking as long as there’s daylight.

If nothing is found by dusk, the search will resume first thing in the morning.
