INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) – Cavaliers All-Star guard Kyrie Irving had a “light, but good” practice a day before Cleveland opens the Eastern Conference finals in Atlanta.

Irving has been slowed by knee and foot injuries during the postseason, but expects to play in the opener against the Hawks on Wednesday night. Cavs coach David Blatt has been pleased with Irving’s progress and said Tuesday he hopes Irving “wakes up tomorrow feeling great.”

Irving aggravated tendinitis in his left knee during Cleveland’s Game 6 series-clinching win over Chicago. But the time off has helped him and some of the other injured Cavs recover.

Forward Tristan Thompson said the rest has helped his bruised left shoulder, which he hurt in a scary fall in Game 6. Thompson says he’s “ready to bang” with the Hawks, who beat the Cavs three times during the regular season.
