LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Southwest Florida paid tribute to fallen members of law enforcement as part of National Police Week.

The Lee County Fallen Officer Memorial took place around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning at Centennial Park in downtown Fort Myers.

An impressive display of law enforcement was present, with several agencies from across the county. Officials with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Myers and Cape Coral police departments and the Florida Highway Patrol attended the memorial.

The families of the 17 fallen officers were also present. Each family was honored with a flower and the names of the officers were read, as well as their end of watch date.

“My brother was killed 32 years ago. A lot of the officers he served with are no longer with the agency but we don’t want him to ever be forgotten, just like any law enforcement death, they never want to be forgotten,” said Lt. Donnie Fuwell.
