Vandals slash dozens of tires in Lehigh Acres

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.- At least 20 people had their tires slashed over the weekend.

The vandals hit street after street, leaving behind expensive damage. Some of the homes hit are near Colorado Avenue, not far from Homestead Road.

“At least 20 cars, they say there may be more ’cause some of the neighbors didn’t even report it,” said Allister Henry.

Henry says his tires were flat when he woke up Saturday morning, so he called the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

“They mentioned that it was not just me, but numerous other people in the community also had the same vandalism happen to their vehicles,” said Henry.

He was immediately able to get the tires replaced through his insurance.

“I think it’s disappointing and you’d expect more of people,” said Henry.

A neighbor down the street wasn’t so lucky. Her insurance didn’t cover it, so her car sat on two jacks for a couple of days.

“You hope it’s maybe a younger kid that doesn’t kind of know the right thing to do, and doesn’t necessarily value someone’s property yet because maybe they’re not working and having to sacrifice to maybe purchase a vehicle and take care of tires, and they may not think of the costs.”

The sheriff’s office tells WINK News they are looking at the possibility that it may be the same person who committed all the crimes.
