CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla.- The Charlotte County Sheriff announced deputies rounded up 28 people on drug charges during ‘Operation Spring Cleaning’ over the past few weeks. Sheriff Bill Prummell says they worked closely with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office on many of the investigations. The 28 people arrested are facing a total of more than 100 drug charges, and they all have previous arrests. These charges range from cocaine trafficking, to possession and distribution of marijuana, meth and prescription drugs. Prummell says the arrests cover the entire county and he expects there are more to come as these investigations continue. He says some of them go back to investigations that began in August. The sheriff says the trend seems to be going back to drugs like cocaine, heroin and meth, after the nationwide crackdown on prescription pills. “With my experience in law enforcement, drugs are the root of all our crimes and if we can root out the drugs, we’re going to see our crime rate go down, and we’ve seen that over the last couple years and we’re going to keep moving forward on that,” said Prummell.
