FORT MYERS, Fla.- Reports of a gun at Dunbar High School Friday proved to be untrue.

WINK News was there as Fort Myers police with their guns drawn searched the campus.

At least a couple of dozen officers responded to the school, after police received a phone call. The caller said there was a weapon at the school.

Dunbar High went on lock down, as resource officers worked inside to try to track down a gun. Dogs also were brought in, to try to find a weapon.

Later, police gave the all-clear, and students left school immediately. Authorities acknowledge the call could have been a prank, but in the case of a gun threat, the response from law enforcement is the same.

“When we get calls to respond to a school, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? We want to make sure that an immediate threat like a weapon, if it is found, get it out,” said Tiffany Wood with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

No weapon was found and no arrests were made. Authorities will try to trace the call. School will continue as usual Monday morning.
