CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – The health department tells WINK News a bat some kids brought to school did not have any diseases. Charlotte County Animal Control sent the bat to a lab in Tampa after five kids found a live bat on their way to school, picked it up and brought it with them. The potential for exposure to rabies had people saying this was a lesson learned. “I think they need to educate them about picking up wild animals. Squirrels, bats, mice,” said Betsy MacDonald.
