Local attorney arrested on fraud, theft warrant

FORT MYERS, Fla.- A high-profile attorney is behind bars Friday night.

J Patrick Buckley is accused of defrauding a client of more than $50,000.

He was taken into custody Thursday.

His bar license was suspended earlier this year after he was accused of diverting client’s money held in trusts for his personal use.

WINK News spoke to a long time friend and business associate of Buckley’s.

“He basically lost his entire company, his home and his marriage as well, so there’s not many more things that a person can deal with all at once, you know,” said Alecs Dean.

This isn’t Buckley’s first time behind bars. Last November, Buckley spent a night in jail after refusing to turn over a quarter of a million dollars of his client’s money to an opposing attorney.
