Sisters busted in Collier; arrested for credit fraud

NAPLES, Fla. – A shopping trip turned into a ride to jail for two sisters in Collier County.

Kendra and Nadia Coles were charged with grand theft and fraud on Wednesday.

Only WINK News cameras were rolling as the pair was busted with bags in hand. The two had more than $1,200 of items when they were stopped by deputies and police.

Reports show the girls were shopping with a Dillard’s credit card. When they handed the clerk the card, the employee noticed the cardholder was a man.

When questioned, both said they had access to the account. They gave all the proper information including the victim’s social security number. The clerk allowed the girls to buy the items but called Wells Fargo to double check; the bank said no one but the cardholder had access.

“That is how a lot of these arrests happen something doesn’t look or feel right and they ask another question,” explained Detective Cara Melito with the Naples Police Department.

Deputies and police were called in and stopped the sisters in the parking lot. Both are from Miami. Detectives say it is common for crooks to drive over and shop on someone else’s dime.

“I am surprised they are coming to the smaller areas, because I would think that they are being detected more easily,” said Melito. “Perhaps, they feel that a large dollar amount purchase will go unnoticed because of the area.”

Deputies say when questioned, one sister said the cardholder was her grandfather and the other said it was her uncle.

Detectives add these types of people typically work in large groups.
