SANIBEL ISLAND, Fla.- The beauty of Sanibel is being captured in headlines around the world. Family Life Magazine named Sanibel Island as one of the top family-friendly locations in the United States. The island encompasses 33 square miles of natural preserve, bike paths, restaurants and, of course, beaches. In the early 1960s, you still needed a ferry to visit it. Now, the 3 mile long Sanibel Causeway, first built in 1963 and rebuilt in 2007, brings visitors from all over the world. WINK News asked people what it is they love most about Sanibel and the same answers came up again and again. It’s peaceful, clean and the beaches aren’t crowded.
