Dunbar day care to close after DCF finds 118 violations

FORT MYERS, Fla.- A Dunbar day care center will shut its doors Thursday.

According to the Department of Children and Families, the center’s license is not being renewed. This comes after two years and almost 120 violations.

Kids Kastle Child Care Center tells our partners at the News-Press, that parents of the children who go to the facility on Carver Avenue in the Dunbar are have made arrangements to have their kids go elsewhere for now.

This comes after DCF cited the facility with numerous deficiencies and the state denied their license renewal.

Kids Kastle has been open since 2009, but DCF says the long-list of violations focus on just the last two years.

The paperwork on the denial lists 60 different licensing standards that the facility was in non-compliance for and another 118 violations within those standards.

The violations include insufficient staff with an unscreened individual alone with children, serious safety hazards were observed, harmful items accessible to children, plus spoiled, contaminated and unsafe food being served as well as hazardous items in the outdoor play area which threatened the health and safety of the children.

Kids Kastle says the owner, Gloria Green, was already working on resolving the issue through an appeal and other avenues.

DCF says the facility has 21 days to appeal the denial. WINK News tried to contact Green but we were told she wasn’t available.

Green does own another Kids Kastle facility on Evans Avenue. A quick check on the DCF website shows that center was cited for multiple violations as well.
