BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.-  Wednesday night, the City of Bonita Springs voted unanimously to name a field at the community park in honor of America’s bravest.

A field off Pine Avenue will be named Veteran’s Memorial Field. According to the city, the park’s director will work with the Lion’s Club, an organization who has invested a lot of money into the fields to rename the other fields.

Council also voted to recognize Veteran’s Memorial Field as the home field for the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team.

The team is made up of war heroes who lost one or more limbs in Iraq or Afghanistan. The team played their first game in Bonita Springs in 2011. They will be back in Southwest Florida in January and February of 2016 to play ball.

The Bonita Springs tournament will be the first time the team plays on the field since the vote to name the field in honor of Veterans.
