BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.- A Bonita Spring baseball field may soon become the home of the brave! The city wants to make a field off Pine Avenue the official home field for the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team. It also wants to rename the field Veteran’s Field.

“The out pouring generosity and hospitality for Veterans in this area is somewhat overwhelming. Being a U.S. Army Veteran myself, it hits close to home,” said president of the team David Van Sleet.

The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team could soon officially have a home field in Bonita Springs, the very place they played their first game in 2011

“We have been back to this area numerous times. We come here to practice. We come here to play,” said Van Sleet.

The team is made up of veterans who lost limbs while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. The field at the Bonita Springs Community Park could soon have a new name that reflects the city patriotism in honor of our country’s bravest.

“The City of Bonita has rolled out the red carpet to use, so to come back to this field and see veterans field on this park would make our guys stick out there chest even further,” said Van Sleet.

He says his team has been to 35 states and over 150 cities.

“This field is used by all different veterans, so what a way to say thank you and pay homage to these guys than to name this Veteran’s Field.”

The council will make their decision Wednesday night. One of the other fields at the park would be named after the Lions Club who have invested a lot of money into the softball fields.
