Brookside community pushes to join City of Naples

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- A neighborhood is pushing to join the City of Naples. The Brookside community is off Davis Boulevard near US 41.

Homeowners tell WINK News living in the city will save them hundreds of dollars a year.

“There’s got to be an advantage for joining the City of Naples, so there is,” said Frank Englund.

He said the tax rate in the city is lower and if they become part of Naples, they will not have to pay a surcharge on water.

“So 25 percent of $100 is $25 a month, so that starts adding up into the hundreds of dollars per year.”

Englund has lived in the subdivision for 18 years and is the president of the Naples Brookside Homeowners Association.

In March, the group made the decision to try and join the city.

“After discussing this for years, we just decided let’s pursue this annexation to the City of Naples and see how it goes.”

“Sounds good to me,” said resident Jamie Shane who has lived in Brookside for five years.

She didn’t know her HOA was pushing to be in the city limits but agrees it’s a great idea.

“I think it’s a kind of actually a long time coming. We consider ourselves part of the City of Naples anyway,” she said.

Now it’s up to the City Council to approve whether or not they want to review the annexation.

They will discuss the request at their meeting on Wednesday.
