Vandal spray paints, keys cars in Estero community

ESTERO, Fla.- A vandal strikes a Southwest Florida gated community, spray painting and keying cars.

Residents in the Osprey Cove community off of Estero Boulevard and US 41 are furious after waking up to find hundreds of dollars in damage.

“Wow, does somebody just hate me and decide to do this?” said Mallory Richards. She woke up to a disappointing surprise Tuesday morning.

Someone spray painted her license paint in a gold color and then keyed her car’s door.

“What kind of satisfaction are you getting from destroying so many people’s stuff?”

But, she wasn’t the only one.

“Next thing I know, I come downstairs. There’s a couple of scuffs on my car, it got spray painted,” said Joey Lacertosa.

Lacertosa just moved into Osprey Cove. The college student says he will now have to fork over hundreds of dollars to repair the damage.

He also believes all the cars had one thing in common.

“Apparently whoever did this attacked all the cars without bar codes or hang tags.”

People who live in the complex must have the codes and tags to get inside and to park. However, visitors can also park without them.

The victims believe whoever vandalized the vehicles was upset because parking is so limited.

“I just hope that whoever did this gets caught,” said Lacertosa.

Lee County deputies are investigating. They say they received 13 claims in total.
