Is your smartphone tracking your every move?

FORT MYERS, Fla. – As you go about your day, driving to work, grabbing a sandwich at lunch or maybe even hitting the gym, your smartphone will be tracking your every move.

WINK News is learning the same features that are designed to make your life easier can also make you an easy target for crooks and stalkers.

“I don’t want people tracking my every move, where I am at,” said Kelly Amrine.

Most apps on your phone use the device’s GPS and also back up your location history.

App developers and phone manufactures say the location services on a smartphone is mostly designed to make our lives easier using it to suggest places to eat or letting us know what is around us.

Shaun Book with Area 51 PC says the same data helping you may also be helping criminals.

“Predatory type things like finding out which parks you frequent with your children, sometimes when and where you may be away from your home, certain work hours,” said Book.

You can turn off your phone’s tracking services. On iPhones and Androids, the location options are under the settings menu.  Turning off the GPS may cause some of your apps to not work.
