BP/ MGN FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Turtle nesting season is underway in southwest Florida thanks to warmer weather. Officials say a nest was spotted in Fort Myers on April 24. Two more were found in Marco Island and Sanibel Island over the weekend. Nesting season typically starts on May 1. But Eve Haverfield of Turtle Time tells the News-Press of Fort Myers (http://newspr.es/1JxiyQD ) that officials were anticipating an early nesting season because of the warmer weather. She says it is the earliest they’ve had a nest on Fort Myers Beach. Volunteers are monitoring the nests as they pop up along the beaches.
