LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. – Deputies are investigating two robberies that happened less than two miles from each other.

WINK News has confirmed the Walmart on Lee Boulevard and the Family Dollar on Homestead Road North were robbed Saturday afternoon.

A WINK News crew on scene said there were at least two deputies and a detective’s car at the Walmart.

Deputies say a suspect robbed the money center inside just before 6 p.m. The suspect reportedly went up to the cashier, flashed a gun and demanded cash.

According to authorities, the clerk handed over the money and the suspect took off running. The store remained open, but the money center was roped off with police tape.

One store employee, who did not identify themselves, said the suspect was armed. WINK News is working to confirm that with deputies.

Meanwhile, just down the road several deputies’ cars surrounded a Family Dollar. Pictures taken by a crew on scene show yellow police tape blocking the store.

Our crew also reported a helicopter was flying over the area all evening.

Deputies have not said whether they have arrested anyone connected to the robberies. They are also not saying whether these robberies are connected.

This same Family Dollar was robbed in January. During that robbery a masked man came into the store and demanded cash from the store clerk.
